Festivities and events in Angeles City

Angeles City is also rich in festivities and celebrations all year round. The following are the different events in Angeles City which you might want to mark on your calendar.

The Philippine International Hot-Air Balloon Festival
The 15th Philippine International Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta was recently held last February 11 to 14, 2010 at the Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga. This is annual event is usually scheduled on either January or February of the year.

It is a weekend event which involves colorful hot air balloons, kite flying, air show, para-gliding and other events that has something to do with flying. That is why this event is tagged as “A weekend of everything that flies!”

La Naval Fiesta
The first half of the Angeles Twin Fiesta, La Naval is held every second Sunday of October and is also acknowledged as the city’s official fiesta. It is a commemoration of the Virgin of the Holy Rosary, who because of her intercession, saw the victory of the Spanish fleet over the Dutch invaders.

Angeles City celebrates this fiesta with typical religious programs, and homes display the finest tradition of hospitality in entertaining guests with the finest food and drinks.

Apu Fiesta (Piyestang Apu)
The second half of the Angeles Twin Fiesta, This is held every last Friday of October. Unlike the lavish La Naval Fiesta, few people celebrate the event by preparing a feast. Usually, only those who live near the Apu shrine in Lourdes Sur are the ones who are really serving a feast for this fiesta. This festivity is held to venerate the supposedly miraculous image of Jesus Christ lying in the sepulcher at the Apu shrine.

Many people from Angeles City, as well as nearby towns in Pampanga, visit the Apu shrine not only on Apu Fiesta but on every Fridays of the year, to pay respect or offer their prayer of petition or thanksgiving to the image of the lying Jesus Christ which is commonly called “Apu.” It is also on those Fridays that the road going to shrine is turned into a flea market where devotees can buy clothes, household and other items at bargain prices.

Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan
Literally, it translates to Music and Dancing in the Streets. This event is the final leg of the Angeles Oktoberfest. It is held every last Friday and Saturday night of October. It is the city’s biggest street party which takes place along the long portion of McArthur Highway in barangay Balibago.

The Tigtigan Terakan keng Dalan last up to the wee hours of the following day and is usually graced by different celebrities and also features both amateur and known OPM bands. And as the title suggests, all this dancing and singing takes place on the street.

Sisig Festival (Sadsaran Qng Angeles)
Started in 2004, it has become n annual event which is held every December to celebrate the world-renowned Kapampangan dish, sisig. Activities in this festivity involved the competition in making the most unique and delicious sisig, and of course, the preparation and cooking of the world’s biggest sizzling sisig, where every attendees can get a chance to partake of the prepared giant sisig.

At a time, it was held at the Nepo quadrangle. Regularly though, it used to be held along the stretch of McArthur Highway in Balibago. But lately, the event is being held at the SM City-Clark.
