Aside from Halo-halo, swimming and Santa Cruzan in May, another event observed during summer is the Holy Week, which incidentally will start next week.
For our family, the most awaited activity during this week is the Visita Iglesia which we have been doing for three (3) straight years now. A tradition that I hope we could keep until my kids grow up.
For those of you, who like us, want to keep this tradition and may not know about the different churches in Angeles City, here are the list of churches that can complete your requirement for your Visita Iglesia.
Immaculate Concepcion Parish Church
Sta. Maria Village, Balibago,
Angeles City
Immaculate Concepcion is located just in front of Sta. Maria Village in Balibago and just a stone-throw away from the McArthur Highway. You would not miss it, because every driver knows this church. All jeepneys going to and from Balibago will pass here.
Sta. Teresita Parish Church
Carlota de Leon St., Sta. Teresita
Angeles City
From Immaculate Concepcion in Balibago, take a jeepney ride going to Angeles proper and you will get off at the corner of Sta. Teresita which is known as the “Crossing.” So called because there used to be a railroad track there when the Philippine National Railway was still operating. You can just then walk (straight ahead) or take the tricycle to go to the church.
Holy Rosary Parish Church
Sto. Rosario St., Sto. Rosario
Angeles City
One the oldest (if not the oldest) church in Angeles City, and one of the most popular in the city. It could easily be reached as most public utility vehicle in Angeles pass in front of this church.
Holy Spirit Parish Church
Vanderbilt St., Marisol
Angeles City
A small but very comfortable church in Marisol. From Holy Rosary, just ride a blue/violet jeepney that ply the route of McArthur Highway and tell the driver to drop at the 3rd gate. From there you can take ride a tricycle to take you to the church. But if you feel like walking, it is not really that far from the 3rd gate (or the 2nd gate) of Marisol.
Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Church
Lourdes Sur East, Angeles City
Another old church in Angeles City, just like Holy Rosary and Immaculate Concepcion. Coming from Holy Rosary, just ride the jeepney plying the Highway (blue/violet jeep) and tell the driver you’ll go to Lourdes Church. You will get off the jeepney before you reach the Angeles University hospital. From the hi-way, you only need to walk to reach the church.
Carmelite Monastery
Sto. Rosario St., Sto. Domingo
Angeles City
A church where many devotees go to (including actress Judy Ann Santos) not only during Visita Iglesia but all days of the year. Many Catholics visit this church to light candles to offer prayers and ask petitions. Just ride the yellow jeepneys with the Villa-Pampang route (going to San Fernando) and you will get off right in front of the monastery.
The Lord’s Transfiguration Parish Church
L & S Subdivision, Angeles City
One of the newer church in the city, the Lord’s Transfiguration is located inside the L & S Subdivision in Angeles City. From the Carmelite Monastery, take another ride on the yellow jeepneys going tell them you’re going to L & S Subdivision. You can then either walk or ride a tricycle to reach the church.
Sacred Heart Parish Church
Essel Park, Telabastagan,
City of San Fernando
I know, Sacred Heart is no longer part of Angeles City, but it is just a few kilometers away from the boundary of the city and just one ride away from Holy Rosary (or Carmelite). You can also take the yellow jeepneys to reach the church. But be sure to ask first because not all of those jeepneys would go there.
I don’t know if I missed a church in Angeles City, but so far these are the only ones I know and the churches we regularly go to every year for the Visita Iglesia.
