VAWC desk to be created in every barangay

In a bid to address the problem of domestic violence, the city government recently sponsored a seminar aimed at establishing a women and children desk in the city’s 33 barangays.

This is in cognizance to the rules and regulations implementing the Anti-violence against women and children under Republic Act (RA) 9710, otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Women.

In compliance to the said law, a joint memorandum circular no. 2010-2 was issued by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Education (DepED),  Department of Health (DOH) and the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).

DSWD leads distribution of cash grants to 4Ps beneficiaries in Angeles City

A total of 711 families from 14 barangays in this city received their conditional cash grants Monday under the government’s “Pantawid sa Pamilyang Pilipino Program” (4Ps).

The recipients came from barangays Capaya, Cutcut, Cutud, Cuayan, Balibago, Pandan, Pulung cacutud, Sapangbato, Lourdes Northwest, Sto. Rosario, Pampang, Sta. Teresita, Salapungan and Sta. Trinidad.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, who graced the turnover ceremony, reminded the recipients to strictly adhere to the program’s conditions.

“The cash grants you are receiving today would be a big help in sustaining your family’s nutrition and educational needs,” the mayor told the recipients.

Angeles City mayor in global anti-human trafficking confab

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan will be leaving Tuesday for South  Korea to represent the country’s League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) in the international conference on Anti-Human Trafficking.

Pamintuan said the conference dubbed “Enhancing Human Security: Developing Local Government Capacities to Combat Child Trafficking in the Asia-Pacific Region” was organized by Jeju International Training Center (JITC) and will be held from March 30 to April 1 in Jeju, Republic of Korea.

Angeles City joins in the celebration of Earth Hour 2011

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan has encouraged all Angelenos to participate and support the Earth Hour 60-minute power switch-off on Saturday.

Thousands of cities, towns, and landmarks around the world will start to go dark for Earth Hour on Saturday evening.

Up to a billion people worldwide are expected to participate in this global voluntary blackout by switching off their lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time.

“When we turn off our lights, let us use it is as an opportunity to reflect about what we can do to contribute in fighting climate change,” Pamintuan said.

Clark gets new investor in AirAsia Inc.

AirAsia Inc. has chosen Clark in Angeles City, Pampanga to be its hub in the country. The airline will be basing its operations at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) when it starts operating international flights from the airport at the last quarter of 2011.

Tony Fernandez, AirAsia Berhad chairman said that their choice of Clark “underline the airline’s commitment to developing transpiration and tourism hubs outside Manila,” while AirAsia Inc. chief executive Marianne B. Hontiveros said, “This is part of the our plans to contribute to the development of the country as a whole.”

Angeles City government awards its loyal employees

The city government recognizes the dedicated service rendered by its long-time employees and officials by giving loyalty awards during a fitting ceremony on March 21 at the Sangguniang Panglungsod Session Hall.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan handed out certificates of loyalty in service award to 131 city workers. The awardees were divided into three categories: bronze for 10 years of service, silver for 15 years, and gold for 30 years and above.

Of these, 46 employees have rendered 10 to 15 years of service; 26 employees – 20 years;  and 41 employees for 25, 30 and 35 years of service.

Angeles City acquires emergency rescue vehicles and equipment

The capability of the Angeles City Local Government to respond in times of disaster received a boost with its latest acquisition of an emergency rescue vehicle and an ambulance.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan along with the members of the city council presented the said vehicles and other newly acquired rescue equipment during the Monday flag-raising rites at the city hall.

“These strengthen our capability to respond to emergency and calamitous situations. In case of disaster we have our equipment and rescue vehicle. Now we are ready,” Pamintuan said.

Audition for a Kapampangan musical play

Just a quick heads up for all aspiring stage actors and musicians. There will be an audition for Batuin, a Kapampangan musical play which will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Kalye Lakandula Arts Gallery, Lakandula St., Pulungbulo, Angeles City. Registration starts at 4:00 p.m.

This talent search is will be the second one to be held for the said play. The first audition was held last February 12, 2011 at the same venue.

Batuin is a Kapampangan adaptation of the musical Jesus Christ, Superstar which is an initiative of the Artists League of Pampanga as they promote the Kapampangan language and arts to today’s youth.
