Art at the Park celebrates Jose Rizal’s 150th birthday.

This Friday, June 24, 2011, Art at the Park, the monthly presentation of arts and artists at the Museo Ning Angeles will celebrate the 150th birthday of or National Hero, Jose Rizal.

There will be a public film showing and attendees to this Friday’s event are advised to “bring your mats and pillows for a public film show, rain weather/comfort food.”

Also included in this Friday’s celebration is Kapampangan poetry and Filipino music, and kundiman played on violin.

It’s a date this Friday, June 24, 6:00 p.m.  at the Museo Ning Angeles.

Angeles City celebrates 113th Philippine Independence Day

Angeles City celebrated the 113th year of the Philippine independence today, June 12, 2011, at the Pamintuan Mansion witnessed by an unprecedented number of attendees.

The former site of the central bank located at the corner of Sto. Miranda and Sto. Entiero Streets, Pamintuan Mansion was where the first anniversary of the Philippine independence was celebrated by Emilio Aguinaldo, as such, the place is now recognized by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) as a heritage site.

The celebration started with the flag raising ceremony as the people sung the Philippine national anthem, Lupang Hinirang. This was followed by the allegiance to the Philippine flag (Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas).

A short but meaningful message was delivered by Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan. He recalled the victory of our heroes to claim the country’s independence, the victory of the EDSA Revolution to gain back democracy, as well as the victory of Angeleños to rise from the devastation of Mt. Pinatubo 20 years ago, and how the common people, the unnamed heroes, played a big role in all these revolutions.

This weekend kicks off the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption, celebrating the triumph of Angeleños from the devastation brought by Mt. Pinatubo.

With the theme “Turning Tragedy into Triumph,” the Angeles City Tourism Office (ACTO) has lined up week-long activities to celebrate the victory of Angeles City and the Angeleños from the Pinatubo eruption in June 1991.

Angeles City celebrates victory over the Mt. Pinatubo eruption

With the theme “Turning Tragedy into Triumph,” the Angeles City Tourism Office (ACTO) has prepared a number of activities for the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan leads the celebration of the life after the widespread destruction caused by Mt. Pinatubo eruption with activities aimed at highlighting the city’s ability to rise after the disastrous calamity.

Mayor Pamintuan, who was also the mayor of Angeles City at the time of the Pinatubo eruption, said in the face of great and seeming insurmountable calamity, the Angeleños indomitable spirit surfaced and surpassed the challenges, and did much better than expected.

A week-long celebration has been scheduled by the ACTO, The line-up of activities kick-off on June 4 with “Padyak Para sa Pag-Bangon,” a bike run around the city, followed by a fun run dubbed “Takbo para sa Pag-kakaisa” on June 5.
